About Héctor

Born: November 15, 2015

My name is Hector and I live in Mexico. Mexico is a beautiful and diverse country but my community has suffered for decades from unrest and deep poverty. When I was young my father abandoned the family and does not provide support. My mother works hard, but for years she had to make the tough choice to buy food or send me to school. When my mom is working I stay with my grandparents who takes very good care of me. My grandmother is currently fighting terminal cancer which is adding stress to the family and makes me sad. I would like to be a police officer when I grow up and enjoy playing ball.

Juárez, Mexico

Once regarded as the most dangerous city in the world Juarez, Mexico sits just across the Rio Grande River. It is hard not to notice the stark contrast of wealth in the US and poverty in this wind-swept valley… or opportunity and despair. The Colonias inhabitants are comprised of the elderly, families, and widows with their children who came here to escape the crime of the city with hopes to find work at a local factory for mere dollars a day. Hope for a better life seems at their fingertips but never quite in reach due to the lack of opportunity and cost of living.
