About Yessi

Born: November 18, 2018

My name is Genesis and I live in Nicaragua, a country known for its vibrant culture but also for its deep poverty. My parents divorced when I was young and my father doesn’t come around much. My mother makes tortillas and sells them in the streets to make money to provide for me and my siblings. My whole life I’ve had trouble getting sick and in 2021 the doctors discovered that I only have one kidney. I am happy to be at the Hope Project with my older brother Giovany and they make sure I have my medicine. I like to dance and I am a good student.

Leon, Nicaragua

Léon is the second largest city in Nicaragua. The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
