Leon, Nicaragua
Léon is the second largest city in Nicaragua. The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
