Richard “Ezequiel” is a boy who lives in one of the poorest areas of León, Nicaragua with his mother, stepfather and three siblings. Ezequiel’s father abandoned the family when he was only a year old. Ezequiel’s family struggles to make ends meet. Ezequiel is a kind hearted boy who likes to play with friends.

The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
