About Sarita

Born: July 18, 2008

Sarita is a girl who lives in one of the poorest areas of León, Nicaragua with her mother Kenia and little brother Edgar. Sarita’s father abandoned her and her mother works hard but it isn’t enough. Sarita had been out of school to care for her little brother but is now on a fast track program to catch up with her peers.

Leon, Nicaragua

Léon is the second largest city in Nicaragua. The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
